Foundational to the Christian
faith is a clear understanding of our mystical or spiritual union with Jesus Christ Many Christians live with unhealthy fears and anxieties because
they lack an understanding of their spiritual identity in their union with Christ.
Therefore, the Holy Spirit desires to illumine our hearts and minds in order that we might
move from an insecure position to a secure position in our relationship with God and
people.
One mistake quite often is made by speaking of a time in
which we made a commitment to Christ, rather than when Christ made a commitment to us.
Scripture says that God chose us "in Him" before the foundation of the World
(Ephesians 1:4a).
God, who is omniscient and omnipotent, causes us to
discover in time what has been determined in eternity, or before time began. In the
fullest biblical sense, our union with Christ began in eternity past and goes through time
into eternity future. The Spirit of Truth through the written Word confirms this by the
assurance that, "He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day
of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6b).
The Gospel of John adds that at the day of the Holy
Spirit's coming, believers would know "I [Christ] am in My Father, and you in Me, and
I in you" (John 14:20).
In summary, Father God knows that we come from the womb
spiritually dead. We all develop fears and insecurities to some degree. He wants us to
know that we are special because we were chosen "in Christ" before the
foundation of the world was framed and by His Holy Spirit and Word, He will renew our
minds and build a divine confidence of our union with Christ.
The songwriter penned it, "He saves, He keeps, He
satisfies."
